Prop Terry Sigley scored a try in Moseley's stirring fight back |
Moseley bounced back from an 18-point first-half deficit to overcome London Welsh 27-21 in the EDF Energy National Trophy quarter-final at Old Deer Park. Winger Dan Norton was put in for the last-minute try that sealed victory after a break from Ollie Thomas. Welsh had pulled clear with first half tries from Jonathan Mills and Paul Doran Jones. But with the wind at their backs Moseley hit back with scores from Paul Arnold, Terry Sigley and Adam Caves. Even then it appeared their efforts had been in vain in the dying moments when a long-distance penalty from Mark Harris edged London Welsh back in front at 21-20. But on-loan Norton's score, converted by Richard Vasey, left Moseley one step away from Twickenham. Unfortunately the result also adds to the severe fixture congestion that Moseley face in their battle against relegation from National One. The Billesley Common club still have 10 games to play in the final two months of the season, starting with a trip to their closest rivals Esher on Saturday. Esher are 12th, four points behind Moseley, with only the top 11 finishers guaranteed to stay in National One next season.
