Lock forward Paul Arnold has scored in both rounds of the Trophy for Moseley |
Moseley take a break from their relegation battle this weekend when they visit London Welsh in the last eight of the EDF National Trophy. The Birmingham-based club are clinging on to the final place to stay in National One next season, and face a major fixture backlog. Mose have emerged victorious on their last two trips to Old Deer Park. But the Exiles were the 15-9 winners at Billesley Common when the two sides met in the league last August. There is a history of the two sides meeting in major knockout competitions, dating back to the late Seventies when they were two of the most successful clubs in the British game. London Welsh moved through on tries scored after a 10-10 draw at The Reddings in the John Player Cup quarter-final of 1977. The West Midlanders gained some revenge in the fourth round in 1982, beating the Exiles 25-9, again at The Reddings. Moseley have made comfortable progress to the Trophy quarter-finals this season with a 34-6 victory over Henley Hawks, followed by the 43-10 success at Bridgwater & Albion. Nathan Bressington and Paul Arnold have both managed a try in each round. London Welsh brushed off Newbury Blues 42-17 in round four, before squeaking past Cambridge 23-22 to reach the last eight.
