That said, we won and we're through to the next round. Mission accomplished. Having found out today that we are to face Nottingham in the next round, the same result would be most welcome. This week has been a mixed bag for the playing squad and for me personally. The bad weather has disrupted the teams training somewhat and we've found ourselves training on the 'rubber crumb' astroturf at Camborne College. A terrific facility, that we're very lucky to have available to us. Having seen the forecast for the coming week, I think we'll be seeing more of it! Welcoming a new arrival this week, we could have used some beautiful Cornish weather. Unfortunately for Blair Cowan, this was not the case and he came in the middle of the worst week of the year so far. The boys have made him most welcome though and despite leaving a roasting New Zealand summer, he seems to be settling in nicely. On a sadder note, this week saw the departure of Bruce Cumming. Our larger-than-life South African lock couldn't agree terms with the club and due to personal reasons and the long-term injury he sustained earlier in the season, he has decided to head home early. Blair Cowan was welcomed by some of the worst weather of the year |
He will be sorely missed by the players and the fans. I would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best for the future. Doug Sanft also left us this week. He has had a turbulent time since arriving and has decided to pursue his career elsewhere. It's a shame, as he showed glimpses of his talent but just never really got going. Sometimes rugby can work like that. Again I wish him and his heavily pregnant girlfriend Kelly all the best for their future. With that in the past, we now must look forward to another challenge with Manchester coming to visit Camborne. It's going to be another big test for us on what will no doubt be a very heavy pitch. They pushed us hard up there so we'll be preparing thoroughly for the battle ahead. From a personal point of view, I just want to be declared fit after finding out I had torn the muscle attachment in my elbow. It will need an operation in the summer, but I've been assured/insisted it can wait until then! That's all from me this week. Let's hope next week will come with better news, better weather but the same result! Grind On. Paves.
