| Sunday, 9 September, 2001, 13:09 GMT 14:09 UK Lions 'veto video nasty' Austin Healey was critical of Graham Henry The official video of the British and Irish Lions' tour of Australia has been heavily censored according to reports. Days after Austin Healey was fined for bringing the tour into disrepute, it has been revealed that a number of scenes featuring the England back have been cut from the finished tape. The Lions were beaten 2-1 by the Wallabies in a controversial Test series dogged by rumours of player unrest and disputes with the management. Healey was punished for comments made in his newspaper column while fellow Lion Matt Dawson was also fined for a similar trangression.
Now The Mail on Sunday has reported that the Lions management have exercised their right to veto scenes from the video, with Healey the player most affected. The newspaper said one of the incidents taken out involved Healey describing how he came close to punching Donal Lenihan after the tour manager's "damning speech following the defeat by Australia A in Gosford in June". Another scene showed Healey criticising Lions coach Graham Henry for his coaching methods. "The Lions had a veto which they exercised very aggressively," said a source close to the video protect. "In particular, they had a big downer on Austin. In removing a fair bit of him, they've attempted to portray the tour as harmonious, pretending there were no splits in the camp and no controversy." |
