The Lions have won their second match Down Under but they endured a stern examination at the hands of the Queensland President's XV in Townsville.

Jason Robinson finished with five tries, Rob Henderson scored the fourth hat-trick of the tour and Colin Charvis also crossed for a pair of tries.

But at half time there were only four points between the teams and the Lions had found it hard to build momentum against commited opponents.

But after only 30 seconds of the second half the Lions made amends for their lacklustre opening 40 minutes and Charvis crashed over for his second try of the match.

It promised to provide the platform that the Lions needed to build on their structure and combinations and they duly delivered.

Robinson, with his first ever international start after swapping codes, crossed to finish off one of the better moves that the backs had been able to build minutes later and from then on the first half was but a distant memory.

Initially the backs had looked nervous with ball in hand and their play was littered with loose passes and wrong decisions.

It was left to the forwards to give the Lions an early lead and as they did in the opening match, two Welshmen gave Graham Henry's men a solid start.

David Young, captain for the day and a Lion through three decades, crashed over from a catch-and-drive on the left touchline after electing to go for touch instead of kicking at goal.

Neil Jenkins, who was uncharacteristically wayward with the boot throughout, missed the conversion before Charvis scored in the same corner.

But between the bullocking back row's brace of tries the Lions looked out-of-sorts and for passages of play prior to the break were playing second fiddle to the President's XV.

Shane Drahm scored a pair of penalties and but for some solid defence from Robinson and his fellow wing Dafydd James, the stand off could have added some conversions to his tally.

The wingers were strong in defence as well as looking hungry in attack and Will Greenwood, the only Lion to start both the opening games, was also on hand to save a certain try after half an hour.
