| Healey faces disciplinary action Healey has landed himself in hot water Austin Healey could face disciplinary action over a newspaper column that has angered the Lions management. The Leicester and England star, who withdrew from the Test decider against Australia because of a back injury, was criticised by Lions coach Graham Henry for his comments. It follows fellow Lions star and BBC columnist Matt Dawson's comments in a newspaper, which criticised the style of management and training on the tour. Healey made negative remarks about Australian weather and Australian males in The Guardian and also had a swipe at Wallabies lock Justin Harrison, whom he labelled a "plod" and a "plank".
"I am amazed that a Lion in the group would give the opposition the ammunition they required to prepare for the game," said Henry. "It was a built-in team talk for Rod Macqueen (Wallabies coach) and the Australian team. "I am not sure what Austin thought - he possibly thought it would knock them (Australia) off their equilibrium. But knowing the Australian animal like I do, it was ideal ammunition. "I was amazed that anyone could have written that," he added. Healey faces a four-figure fine from Home Unions chiefs. Meanwhile, Dawson told BBC Five Live on Sunday that he does not regret making his critical comments in the 'Dawson Diaries' for The Daily Telegraph. "As far as retracting my statements, I don't retract anything I've said. What I've said is what I think - it was my diary. But I apologise because it was the wrong time to do it," he said. |
