Petrie given Scots call
Jason White in action for Glasgow
Jason White could start against the French
Scotland have promoted Glasgow number eight Jon Petrie to the full Scotland squad to face France following an injury to Ross Beattie.

Beattie, of Bristol Shoguns, suffered a recurrence of the Achilles injury that affected him last autumn.

The 26-year-old Petrie had been due to play for Scotland A and Eric Peters will take his place in that team.

Scotland coach Ian McGeechan had originally made just one change to his squad for the RBS Six Nations clash in France, despite Sunday's emphatic home defeat by Ireland.

Back-row forward Jason White replaced Nathan Hines in the 22-man squad for Scotland's second game of the competition.

McGeechan insisted that White's inclusion was a tactical decision and that Hines has not been dropped.

"Jason played very well for the A team in Stirling on Saturday and has made a very good comeback from the injury he sustained against Fiji during the autumn," said the coach.

"We are looking at tactical options and Jason's call-up does not reflect any dissatisfaction with Nathan Hines."

White, who has played at lock and as a loose forward, was left out of the squad for the Ireland game because he was considered unfit.

He had a storming display for Scotland A against Ireland A in the drawn match at Stirling on Saturday.

Ireland broke an 18-year jinx at Murrayfield with their record-margin victory on Sunday and were clinical in their dismantling of Scotland's vaunted scrum and lineout.

White is likely to be named in the starting team in an effort to inject some dynamism into the Scotland pack after a flat performance against Ireland.
