Wolves sign Wakefield duo
New Warrington signing Nathan Wood
Wood has made the move to Warrington
Warrington have signed Australian scrum-half Nathan Wood and centre Ben Westwood from Super League relegation rivals Wakefield.

The 29-year-old Wood is being brought in as a replacement for captain Matt Rodwell who recently announced he was retiring from the game because of injury.

"Nathan Wood is a great signing for the club and will strengthen the squad," said coach David Plange.

"He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the game after many years in the NRL."

Wood has also played for Balmain, Sydney Roosters and the New Zealand Warriors.

He appeared in all but one of the Wildcats' first 15 games of the season, including the last two games as captain.

Wood has signed with the Wolves until the end of the current season, with an option to remain with the club for next year.

International future

The 20-year-old Westwood cost 60,000 - half the fee originally sought when he was placed on the transfer-list.

He is one of the most exciting young English talents in the game and was tipped by Wakefield coach Peter Roe to gain representative honours.

Wood agrees. He said: "He's a promising young centre who never let the side down. I reckon he's a potential Great Britain player."

Warrington are due to take on Wakefield this Sunday, but part of the deal was that duo would not face their old club at Wildespool.

The pair are likely to debut against London Broncos at Carcassone on 23 June.
