Woodsy on...
Warrington Wolves

BBC Sport's Dave Woods takes a look at the 12 sides battling for Super League honours in 2002.

I desperately hope I'm wrong, but this could be a difficult year for the Wolves.

They have lost a lot of very good players from last year, especially in the forwards, and have pulled in 16 new signings.

Sid Domic
Sid Domic: One of many new faces
Steve Anderson has a big job on, though he appears to have the talent to do that job well.

Performances at Wilderspool will be the key, and if they can count on anything it's the fantastic Warrington fans who's support has lifted the side to some unlikely results.

Anything but a good start could see the Wire struggling this year.

Predicted finish: 11th

Big Season For: Jon Clarke, the kid who looked set for the big time at Wigan before the off-the-field problems.

After a brief sojourn in London, he now has the chance to find his feet with Warrington.

A good season this year, and he may well be being talked about as a Great Britain player again.

Previous Super League finishes: 5th, 9th, 10th, 7th, 6th, 7th.

Coach (performance director): Steve Anderson (since Aug 2001).

New recruits: Sid Domic, Matthew Rodwell (both Penrith), Darren Burns (Brisbane), Tom O'Reilly (Woolston), Matt Sturm (Workington), Dale Cardoza, Dale Laughton, Nick Fozzard (all Huddersfield), Kevin Crouthers (Dewsbury), Leroy Rivett (Leeds), Leon Felton (Canterbury Bulldogs), Mark Hilton (Wigan), Paul Marquet (Newcastle Knights), John Hill (Alliance), Steve Maden (Academy).

Departures: Allan Langer, Kevin Walters, Andrew Gee (all Brisbane), Danny Nutley (Cronulla), Toa Kohe-Love (Hull), Ian Sibbitt (Melbourne), Tawera Nikau, Martin Masella, Gary Mercer, Steve Georgallis (all retired), Dave Highton, Alan Hunte (both Salford), Ian Knott (Wakefield), Steve McCurrie (Widnes), Jamie Stenhouse (released).
