Matt Garside won international honours for Great Britain Students |
York City Knights' Matt Garside could miss out on playing against his University in the third round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup. Garside qualifies to play for both York and Northumbria University but a back problem could rule him out altogether. The 20-year old told BBC Radio York: "I've been struggling with my back for a bit. "Through the weekend it just stiffened up and I was struggling to walk really. I'll just see how it goes." Garside could have chosen to play for Northumbria, who he captains, against the Knights but coach Dave Woods confirmed if he is fit he will be playing for York. | I didn't realise the draw was taking place and I just heard my flatmate laughing out loud and shouting |
"He's been playing Wednesday and Sunday for a while now and he'll either play for us or he won't play at all. "We won't make him go through and trying to pick and choose. They want him to play for them. "He's not real keen coming up against Ian Bell so he'll either play for us or he'll miss out." Garside said it had been a difficult decision to make as to who to commit to for the game. "I didn't realise the draw was taking place and I just heard my flatmate laughing out loud and shouting," he said. "He said that was the draw. I got a few texts and my phone was going all day saying 'what are you going to do?' "It's a tricky one playing against your Uni but this is my team for the summer."
