Woods was impressed by Thompson in pre-season |
Castleford Tigers back Jordan Thompson has joined York City Knights on loan for a month. The 19-year-old centre, who can also play as winger, came through the Tigers' academy and made 15 Super League appearances in 2010. Knights coach Dave Woods told BBC Radio York: "He's a bit like Michael Shenton where he'll ease his way in and once he gets in he'll make a big impact. "I think he's a star of the future," Woods added. "He's big and he's strong. He'll be really good for us." | Wakefield wanted him to go there but they weren't keen on sending him to Wakefield. Thompson joined the Knights last season on dual registration but never played for the club as he began to get opportunities in the first team at Castleford. He joins John Davis on loan at York from Castleford and team mate Nathan Massey who is dual registered. Woods continued: "Castleford rang us the other day and asked if we'd take him on loan. "Wakefield wanted him to go there but they weren't keen on sending him to Wakefield. They wanted him to come to us. "Jordan's spoken to Nathan Massey and he's really enjoying it, so Jordan wanted to come to us as well which is great from a player's point of view. "The two games he played against us in the trials he really did well against us." Thompson will be available for Sunday's Northern Rail Cup tie against Keighley Cougars.
