Jonathan Smith came through the youth scheme at Morecambe
York City midfielder Jonathan Smith is confident the club can reach their aim of the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs this season.
The win over Gateshead put York in seventh place and six points off the top five.
Smith, 24, told BBC Radio York he is enjoying his first season at the club.
"I'm loving it. The gaffer's put his faith in me and I think if we keep playing as we are we've got a great chance," he said.
The former Morecambe man joined York City from Forest Green Rovers in August 2010.
He said: "It's great to be part of it. Ever since the gaffer (Gary Mills) came in we've been really good.
"My aim is to just stay in the team and keep playing well and keep pushing up that table."
Smith scored in the 2-1 win over Gateshead and earned the man-of-the-match award.
"I'm proud of it but the main thing is the three points. If I'd got man-of-the-match and it had been 2-2 I'd have been devastated. But we got the result and the man-of-the-match is a bonus."
