McGurk signed for York in 2006 after a spell on loan
York City centre-back David McGurk has agreeed a new deal to keep him at Bootham Crescent.
The 28-year-old asked for a transfer to Luton earlier in the season but he is now tied to City until May 2013.
Manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York: "He can see that we're close to the play-offs and what we've done at this football club in the last few months.
"He wants to be part of it. I rate him as a centre-half and we've been talking over the last few weeks."
After rejecting offers from Luton for McGurk, Mills said he was delighted the player wanted to stay.
"I came in October and within two weeks David's talking to me about leaving and wanting to go to Luton, not giving me a chance with him to show what I'm capable of as a manager and what I want to do at this football club," he said.
"I can't understand personally why anyone wants to leave this club because it's a great club.
"But I don't want to lose the likes of David McGurk as a centre-half."
