Simpson has moved up three places to world number 45

Guernsey's Chris Simpson lost to Essex's Daryl Selby in the first round of the Swedish Open on Thursday.

The 23-year-old and world number 45 was beaten in straight sets, 11-5 11-2 11-8, by the world number 10 who is the tournament's fourth seed.

The result was a repeat of when the two met at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi last year.

It was the first time Simpson had qualified for the main draw, having lost in qualifying twice before.

In this year's qualifying rounds Simpson beat Swede Christian Drankenberg 11-6 11-8 11-5 and Gloucester's Robbie Temple, 11-3 8-11 11-4 11-5.
