Guernsey's Chris Simpson crashed out in the first round of the Men's World Squash Open in Saudi Arabia.

Simpson lost in straight sets against the reigning world champion Amr Shabana, who took the tie 3-0.

Simpson told BBC Guernsey: "I think that I played well and I made him work for every point, but he showed his class with his finishing ability.

"I think I learnt a lot from the match, and there is so much that he did that I want to go and learn to do now."

Simpson is set to stay in Saudi Arabia to watch the conclusion of the World Open, before travelling to India for his last tournament of the year.
