Great Britain lost their opening Fed Cup tie 2-1 against Switzerland in Eilat, Israel on Wednesday. Guernsey-born Heather Watson, 18, was beaten 6-1 6-3 by world number 46 Timea Bacsinszky in the first singles match. Anne Keothavong lost 6-1 6-2 to Patty Schnyder, ranked 42nd, before Watson and Jocelyn Rae beat Bacsinszky and Amra Sadikovic 6-4 6-3 in the doubles. Britain must now beat Denmark on Friday at 0800 GMT to have any chance of moving up from Europe/Africa Group I. British number one Elena Baltacha did not play against Switzerland as she has a minor knee injury, but team captain Nigel Sears is hopeful she will feature against Denmark. Keothavong said on Twitter: "Disappointing day at the office against the Swiss. Gotta pick it up for our next match against Denmark on Friday."
