Madeline Perry is ranked eighth in the world |
Madeline Perry fell to an agonising 3-2 defeat against top seed Laura Massaro in Friday's Monte Carlo Classic final. The second seed from Banbridge, 32, stormed back from two games down and then let victory slip from her grasp as Preston's Massaro triumphed. She was 6-1 up in the deciding game but failed to register another point as she lost 5-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-2, 6-11. "I am bitterly disappointed at the result. I just can't put my finger on what went wrong," said Perry. "She upped her game a little but I didn't make too many unforced errors in the last game. "It was especially disappointing after coming back the way I did. "I really thought I could have won as I played very well after losing the first two games. Perry will return home next week to defend her Irish Open title in Dublin.
