Madeline Perry upset the odds with her victory over Waters |
Madeline Perry booked her place in the semi-finals of the Qatar Classic after beating England's Alison Waters in five games in Doha. The 32-year-old from Banbridge, who is seeded number five, won 8-11, 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 in a marathon game which lasted 69 minutes. Perry trailed 8-6 in the deciding game but held her nerve to go through. Perry will now meet Australia's Rachael Grinham, the second seed, in the last four on Sunday. "I struggled a bit at the start and I was down in the second game as well." said Perry. "But at the end I didn't want to give her any cheap points. I was moving well and she was the one who was making the errors. "Concentration isn't always my strongest quality but I was pleased with how good it was in the fifth game. "I just tried to hang in there and I managed to get that feeling of composure back." On Sunday she will be hoping to reverse the result of the British Open final, in which she lost 3-0 to Grinham after beating world number one Nicol David earlier in the tournament.
