Jeff Szwez scored the opening goal for the Giants

The Belfast Giants beat Coventry Blaze 2-1 in Saturday night's Elite League game at the Odyssey Arena.

Jeff Szwez gave the Giants the lead after 16 minutes of the first period but Greg Chambers replied to level the scores in the second period.

A goal by Pat Bateman, also in the second period, secured the win for the Giants as they challenge for the title.

Steve Thornton's side now travel to face Nottingham Panthers on Sunday afternoon, with a 1600 GMT start.
