The Belfast Giants avenged Saturday night's defeat at the hands of Sheffield by beating the Steelers 5-4 at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday night. Goals by Evan Cheverie, Pat Bateman and Jeff Szwez put Belfast 3-0 ahead in the Challenge Cup Group A game. Brad Cruikshank replied for Sheffield before the end of the first period. Craig Peacock and Brandon Benedict were the other scorers for the Giants with Jeff Legue, Robert Dowd and Cruikshank on target for Sheffield. Belfast's seven-match winning run came to an end when they were beaten by Sheffield in the Challenge Cup on Saturday night. Legue and Mark Thomas hit early Sheffield goals and while Benedict replied for Belfast, Matt Hubbauer made it 3-1 for the Steelers. Legue's goal extended Sheffield's lead to 4-1 before Benedict struck again to give the Giants a glimmer of hope. But Cruikshank extended Steelers' lead to three in the final period before Michael Jacobsen's late goal.
