Brandon Benedict battles with Scott McKenzie at Dundonald |
The Belfast Giants moved back to the top of the Elite League as two Tom Walsh goals helped them clinch their seventh successive victory. Recent signing Jeff Szwez again made a major impact by scoring the Giants' third goal and also assisting Walsh's two opening strikes at Dundonald. Walsh put the Giants ahead in the fourth minute and doubled the lead in the second period. Craig Peacock scored the Giants third goal before Szwez's late goal. With Nottingham losing 3-2 at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night, Steve Thornton's Belfast side moved back to the top of the table. Szwez scored two on his debut for the Giants in Saturday's league win over Nottingham and was again on target in Sunday's Challenge Cup victory over Newcastle.
