Action from Wednesday's Challenge Cup second leg in Belfast |
Belfast Giants' hopes of retaining the Challenge Cup were dashed despite a brave second-leg display in the semi-final against Cardiff Devils. The Giants won 5-3 on the night but Cardiff progressed 8-7 on aggregate. Matt Miller put Cardiff ahead in the third minute but goals from Brandon Benedict, Craig Peacock and Evan Cheverie boosted Giants hopes. Two Max Birbraer goals seemed to have Cardiff in control but they had to hang on after two late Colin Shields goals.
