Giants player/coach Steve Thornton bagged a double in the rout

The Belfast Giants hammered the Vipers with an 11-goal blitz at the Odyssey on Friday night.

Pat Bateman (2), Steve Thornton, Craig Peacock and Brandon Benedict netted as the Giants surged to a 5-0 lead.

David Longstaff pulled one back before Peacock, Thornton, Mark Morrison, Sean McMorrow, Evan Cheverie and Jeff Szwez added to Belfast's advantage.

Jason Tejchma hit a consolation double for Newcastle, who defeated the Giants 2-1 on Sunday night.
