Colin Shields was on target for the Giants

The Belfast Giants trounced Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 in Friday night's Elite League game at the Odyssey Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Simon Lambert scored for Edinburgh but Brandon Benedict, Jeff Szwez (2) and Pat Bateman replied for the Giants.

Jordan Steel pulled one back for the Capitals in the third period.

Goals from Kevin Phillips, Colin Shields, Bateman and Tom Walsh sealed a comfortable success for Belfast who now travel to face Newcastle on Saturday.
