Vikings won their fourth consecutive Isle of Man title in 2010 |
Vikings ladies beat Newcastle 5-2 to reach the semi-finals of the England Hockey Women's Vase. The Manx side went into the second half with a 3-0 lead after an early goal from Katie Errock followed by strikes from Louise Slater and Dani Coombes. After the break Newcastle pulled two back but goals from Coombes and Captain Kim Carney secured the win. The Isle of Man champions will now face Alderley Edge on 27 March for a place in the final. Vikings qualified for the competition after winning the Isle of Man's Women's Premier League and will be looking to improve on last year's campaign when they were knocked out in the semi-finals. The Women's Vase, which is a straight knock-out competition, has been running since the 2000/01 season. Meanwhile in the Mixed Premier Division, Bacchas A took advantage of current league leaders Valkyrs A not playing this weekend to move to the top of the league with a 5-1 victory over Castletown Celts. The Tromode side moved two points clear as captain Jamie Brown led the way with a brace and was joined on the scoresheet by Emma Leeming, Cat Hodgson and Gareth Craig. Elsewhere, Ramsey A claimed an impressive 4-1 victory over Valkyrs B with Nick White netting a hat-trick. In Mixed Division One Saracens Sabres maintained their unbeaten record with an 8-1 victory over Ramsey Ravens. Andrew Winstanley and Dave Horan both scored hat tricks for the Sabres. Castletown Cammags continued their good run of form with a 4-1 victory over Vikings C in a fiercely contested game while Harlequins claimed both points on offer from their game with Castletown Cushags winning 2-1. Valkyrs C claimed their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Bacchas C.
