Whalley said the island side needed more regular opposition |
Guernsey's men's hockey team went out of the HA trophy in round two, losing 1-0 to Tulse Hill and Dulwich in Southampton on Sunday. Coach Andy Whalley believes the team should have played more games in the run up to the competition. He told BBC Guernsey."They've already been playing for five or six weeks in their league together as a side. "For Guernsey, we come together purely for this competition and the inter-insular." He added: "It really took us the first half to get ourselves together and in the second half we were definitely the better side." Guernsey won the trophy in 2008/09, but went out in the first round of the 2009/10 competition. They received a bye in the first round of this season's competition. Whalley concluded: We put in a very, very good performance unfortunately we came away second. "They scored in the last two-three minutes of the game, which was their first shot on target, which was a tough one to swallow."
