Beckie Herbert is looking forward to playing in Argentina |
Jersey hockey star Beckie Herbert is looking forward to playing for Great Britain in their upcoming five-test tour of Argentina. Argentina's women are ranked second in the world and Herbert knows it is going to be a tough tour. "Their team are treated like celebrities out there," the 23-year-old told BBC Jersey. "They get huge crowds. There's loads of noise and you have to concentrate to hear the whistle." Great Britain head coach Danny Kerry said: "Playing in Argentina is one of the most enjoyable experiences of an international career. "The crowds are several thousand in number, with an amazing carnival atmosphere." Herbert's last international action was in Australia in the summer as part of the England team playing in the 2009 Champions Trophy. She added: "I'm really excited; obviously it's a great opportunity. "I've played in Argentina a few times before and I think it's the best place as a female hockey player to go and play." The tour marks the start of the Olympic cycle running up to the London 2012 Games and Herbert says that even though London is two years away, it is on everyone's mind. "Obviously there's matches and tournaments before then but ultimately London is on everyone's radar and everything we do is geared towards it." The five-test series with Argentina runs from Saturday 12 December until Friday 18 December.
