Jersey captain Mark Dicker led by example with one goal |
Jersey's men's hockey team are into the quarter-finals of the England Hockey Harrod Trophy after an impressive 2-1 win against Maidenhead. After a goalless first-half, Jersey's Tom Millar scored on 41 minutes following some impressive play by Mike James down the right wing. Captain Mark Dicker then increased Jersey's advantage with an unstoppable drag-flick for the side's second. Maidenhead scored a consolation goal in the final minute but it was not enough. Jersey head coach Shelagh Herbert said: "This was a very good performance. "Maidenhead were tough opposition and also quite physical so we had to play with a good structure today but also stand up to some quite rough play and keep our discipline." The victory marks the third time in recent seasons that Jersey have reached the quarter-final stage of the national cup competition, with the next round set to be played on 14th February 2010.
