Merrien (left) came back from a slow start to dominate Forrest |
Alison Merrien has qualified for her third consecutive ladies singles final at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk. After a slow start the Guernsey bowls player dominated the match to beat Scotland's Julie Forrest 8-3 9-1. After a slow start which saw her go 2-0 down Merrien improved and only lost one more end in the first set. She dominated the second taking the first six ends to put on a 9-0 lead with only three ends to go. Forrest got a consolation one in the seventh, but it was too little too late as she could no longer overtake Merrien to force a tie-break. "Well the way Julie started off I thought 'this is going to be a really tight game and I'll have to pick my game to match it'," Merrien said. "I just found the length and the pace did change, I found in the game, and just managed to stay in there." Merrien, who won the mixed pairs championship with Simon Skelton on Tuesday, will face either Karen Murphy from Australia or Kerry Packwood from Wales, in Thursday's final.
