Merrien will face Scotland's Julie Forrest again in the singles event |
Alison Merrien and Simon Skelton are through to the the final of the mixed pairs at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk. Guernsey's Merrien and Skelton, from Nottingham, beat Scotland's Julie Forrest and England's Ian Bond 9-3 9-1 in Sunday's semi-final. They now face the Ellen Falkner and Greg Harlow in Tuesday's final. The English pair booked their place in the final with a 7-4 5-5 win over Karen Murphy and Mervyn King. Merrien, twice a runner-up in the Ladies World Matchplay Championship, also meets Forrest in the singles semi-finals on Wednesday. "I was pleased with my game," she said. "I just wanted to out-bowl Julie and get one over her for Wednesday. "It's the furthest I've ever got in the mixed pairs. In fact, I'm more pleased with the way I'm playing in the pairs than the singles." The pair reached the semis after upsetting reigning champions Carol Ashby and Alex Marshall in the previous round. "We played well today, but nowhere as well as we did in the previous round," said Skelton, who has twice lost in the singles semi-finals. "I think both Julie and Ian struggled. "It's nice to be in my first final here. I've lost in too many semi-finals."
