Merrien dropped a place from world number one in August 2009

Five Guernsey bowlers appear in the top 50 male and female bowlers in the latest world rankings.

Alison Merrien remains world number two as New Zealand's Val Smith holds onto the top spot after the World Cup Championships in Australia.

Lucy Beere is ranked 12, while in the men's rankings Ian Merrien is 20=, Matt Le Ber 26= and Gary Pitschou 32.

Guernsey Bowls chief executive Garry Collins said: "It is great to see island players up there."
