The team won six titles at the event in the Isle of Wight |
Guernsey's bowlers have dominated the alternative Island Games bowls competition in the Isle of Wight. The alternative event is contested by eight of the 25 members of the Island Games, after the sport was not represented in this year's games. After four days of play Guernsey won the ladies' team gold with 15 points and the men's team gold with 18, the maximum points available. They also won both fours finals, the men's pairs and ladies' singles titles. Jean Simon, Heidi Le Noury, Joan Shaw and Lianna Bichard scored a 22-18 win over the hosts in the ladies' fours final. Meanwhile Shaun Bichard, Steve Desperques, Kris Bichard and Dan de la Mare saw off a challenge from Alderney to win the men's fours event. Todd Priaulx and Chris Dyer beat the Isle of Man to win the men's pairs and Shirley Petit just edged out Shetland's Rosie Jamieson in the ladies singles. The only disappointment for Guernsey was in the men's singles final as Garry Collins lost out to Darren Griffith, from the host island. The Isle of Wight is due to host the Island Games in 2011.
