Merrien is the current British Isles bowls champion

Guernsey bowler Alison Merrien was officially named the number one ranked woman player in the world on Wednesday.

The Sarnian recently missed out on retaining the Indoor World Championship in Australia, coming away with the bronze medal.

However, she managed to rack up enough points to take the number one position in the World Bowls Limited rankings.

In March, Merrien won her third consecutive British Isles Bowls Championship in Belfast.
