Every competitor at the 2009 Island Games, held in Åland, produced negative test results following the introduction of random drug testing. These were the first Games at which tests were carried out, after anti-doping rules were introduced by the International Island Games Association. The Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm had no positive tests from any of the 25 competing islands. The random testing procedure will continue in the Isle of Wight in 2011. The list of banned substances included many prescription medicines, such as ventolin, which is used by sufferers of asthma.
