Island Doubles champions Dorothy and Gordon De Gruchy

Dorothy and Gordon De Gruchy were crowned Jersey's 2009 petanque doubles champions after claiming victory at the Weighbridge Gardens on Saturday.

Despite almost going out in the first round the pair had a comfortable passage into the final.

On the way they dispatched Chris Romeril and Steve Foster 13-3 in the first semi-final.

The final against Jeanne and Ken Le Brun was a closer match as both teams made good starts.

The Le Bruns edged ahead 6-2 after five ends and then pushed on to go 9-5 up, only to lose four shots on the next end.

From there the De Gruchys kept moving slowly away and finally became the 2009 Magic Touch island champions with a 13-9 win.
