Knight won two British titles as well as the EWC crown in 2010 |
David Knight says his victory in the opening round of the British Enduro Championship was a perfect warm-up for his assault on another world title. The Manx rider took a commanding victory in Sunday's Muntjac Enduro in Norfolk and told the BBC he is brimming with confidence. "I am really pleased with the way the event went and all the changes I made to the bike," said Knight. The first round of the EWC will be held in Spain on Saturday, 2 April. The 32-year-old from Ballaugh will now travel to Florida for 10 days of warm weather training, before continuing his Enduro World Championship preparations at rounds three and four of the British Sprint Enduro Championship. "Both the British series are providing great competition, so I am in a good position to go for a fourth world title in 2011," Knight continued. The KTM Enduro Factory team rider claimed a commanding victory in the opening round of the BEC, held in Norfolk's Thetford Forest on Sunday. Knight dominated the physically and mentally demanding one-day event, winning all five of the timed special stages. Alex Rockwell finished second to Knight in the BEC opener |
Fellow Manx man Alex Rockwell made a dream start to the series, finishing second. "Finishing second to David Knight is like winning the event for me," said the 21-year-old, who is still returning to full fitness after a back injury. Rockwell's performance saw him take a clear victory in the U23 competition. "The course was punishing but I am really made up with my performance. To beat European and World Champions is a great feeling," Rockwell added. KTM riders Paul Edmonson and Greg Evans finished third and fourth, with Rockwell's Midwest Husaberg UK team-mate Si Wakely completing the top five. Making the step up to the Championship class for the first time, 19-year-old Daniel McCanney battled his way to 13th overall. The Gas Gas UK rider topped the Under 23 E3 class and finished fourth overall in the U23 class.
