Jonathan Rea is fourth fastest in Monza qualifying

Rea took a brace of wins in the previous Superbike round at Assen

Ballyclare man Jonathan Rea qualified fourth for Sunday's World Superbike Championship Italian round at Monza.

Rea improved his first-day time by over two seconds but home rider Max Biaggi, Cal Crutchlow and Michel Fabrizio were all faster than Rea.

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Rea is in third place in the championship after his double victory in the previous round at Assen.

Eugene Laverty qualified second for Sunday's World Supersport race.

Turkish rider Kenan Sofuoglu finished .12secs ahead of Toomebridge man Laverty in Saturday's qualifying session.

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Rea has 110 superbike championship points going into this weekend - 38 behind Haslam with Max Biaggi second on 128.

Parkalgar Honda rider Laverty won the previous Supersport round in Assen and currently lies third in the championship - 19 points behind series leader Spain's Joan Lascorz.

Lascorz qualified third for Sunday's race.
