Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty finish in top six

Jonathan Rea was fifth in last year's championship

Jonathan Rea secured fifth and sixth place finishes in the latest rounds of the World Superbike series in Valencia.

Series leader Leon Haslam and Noriyuki Haga took race wins and Rea now lies fifth in the championship standings.

Eugene Laverty finished fifth in the World Supersport race after starting the event from pole position.

Laverty is third in the championship on 41 points, with Valencia race winner Joan Lascorz leading on 65 points and Kenan Sofuoglu second on 61.

Ballinamallard United teenager Josh Elliott finished in a very creditable sixth place in the European Superstock race, having qualified in 11th position.

Michael Dunlop was fifth in the opening race of the one-make Triumph series at Valencia.

The next round is at Assen in the Netherlands on 25 April.
