Tockwith teenager Sarah Moore hopes to make a career out of touring cars |
Yorkshire teenager Sarah Moore has joined the website subscription team YourRacingCar to defend her Ginetta Junior Championship title. The 15-year-old from Tockwith was the first female to win a British Touring Car series but needs funding for 2010. She told BBC Radio York: "Last season YRC did really, really well to get the money that they did to do the full season of car racing." Her father Simon added: "A budget for someone Sarah's age is up to £120,000." The YRC's budget comes from annual subscriptions of £25 for an adult and £15 for a child. | It's shown that girls can do what boys can do and I've proved that this year |
"There are a lot of people who become members," she added. "It's surprising how many people follow the drivers. "The first step of the ladder is to get noticed, and the second step is to raise the finance and the funding." Both are grateful for the extra publicity gained by Sarah for her ground-breaking achievements in the Touring Car series, although she would rather be judged purely on her merits. "You don't tend to see many girls doing motorsport," she added. "It's unusual. "There was me and two other girls who did the Junior Championships. "To see girls doing something that people think boys would normally do, I think that's good. "It's got a lot of people's attention. It's shown that girls can do what boys can do and I've proved that this year. "It's a lot of hard work, the amount of effort you've got to put in to achieve it. You've got to do a lot of training, a lot of track days, and training for the media side as well."
