Sarah Moore hopes to make a career out of touring cars |
North Yorkshire touring car driver Sarah Moore took second in the final race of the season at Brands Hatch to win the Ginetta Junior Championship. The 15-year-old from Tockwith near York won five of the 20 races to become the first female champion in the British Touring Car Championship package. She told BBC York: "It's great because the package is the biggest you can get apart from Formula One. "The boys don't like me to beat them, but I find it quite funny." "Being on the package is great for the juniors because it brings them a lot of attention by the media," she added. "It gets the touring car drivers looking at the younger drivers. "I'd like to do the Le Mans 24-hour race, the touring cars or GT racing, because I find that more exciting than the single seaters." Moore's father owns Tockwith airfield, which is where the Tockwith Motorsport team is based, and motorsport runs in the family. But Moore knows she will need financial support to achieve her potential. "We're not sure what we're doing next year," she said. "There's not much money and we haven't got any sponsors."
