A young racing driver from near York has been awarded the Rising Star status by the British Racing Drivers' club.

Sarah Moore, 15, from Tockwith has been given the award which helps young drivers to succeed at the top level of motor sport.

The scheme has a record of selecting future champions and there are high hopes for Moore.

"I will get to meet all other kinds of drivers, which is good for my career," she said.

The teenager is one of the youngest ever recipients of the award and one of only a handful of females. Her older brother Nigel is also a Rising Star.

It's really great to be involved in something so unusual

Moore remains at the top of the table in the Ginetta Junior Championship and aims to stay there.

"With all the practice I've been doing I know I've got a lot of pace. I'm definitely targeting a big points haul to keep my championship lead," she said.

Moore is next on the track in Edinburgh taking part in a unique driving demonstration in the Scottish capital.

She will take part in a high-speed show next to Edinburgh castle as part of the Dunlop British Touring Car Festival.

It takes place on 13 August just as the Edinburgh Festival gets under way and with free entry to the public, Moore is looking forward to getting out in front of the crowds.

"It's really great to be involved in something so unusual and I can not wait to show my Ginetta and get out and meet people," she said.

She then remains in Scotland to race at the Knockhill circuit in Fife at the next round of the Ginetta Junior series.
