North Yorkshire teenager Nigel Moore will make history this weekend by becoming the youngest British driver to enter the Le Mans 24 hour race.

The 17-year-old, from Tockwith near York, already has a number of British titles to his name.

He told BBC Radio York: "I'm looking forward to it to be honest. It's just going to be a whole totally different atmosphere to what I'm used to."

He will drive a Ginetta car for Team LNT on Saturday 13 June.

Moore added: "It's a 24 hour race which starts on Saturday and goes through the night and finishes on Sunday. There's four different categories that race there.

"In 2007 I did the Ginetta Juniors which is 1.4 Zetec engine in a Ginetta based chassis.

"This year my brothers and sisters are doing it, who are 14 and 15 and at the minute my sister is leading it.

"I started doing karting when I was four and started driving cars when I was five. My dad's got an airfield at Tockwith."

Moore said he wants to stay in motorsport as he gets older and is aiming to get to the top.

"I'd like to carry on," he said. "I'd love to maybe have a test in F1 or something one day for sure."
