Sarah Moore comes from a family of motorsport fans |
North Yorkshire driver Sarah Moore can win this season's Ginetta Junior Championship this weekend. The 15-year old from Tockwith tops the leader board by 24 points after five wins and nine podium finishes. She is favourite to win at Brands Hatch and told BBC Radio York: "My main rival is Jake Cook who I've been battling with all year. "Most of my main rivals in the championship are all boys but it should be a really good battle." Moore is one of only three girls racing in the championship but she hopes that more will get involved. | Racing in the dark at Le Mans is one thing I want to do |
"It is quite difficult because there's not many (girls) interested in motorsport and they don't know where to go to find out how to get into it. "But there are three of us in it now and we've got a lot of friends wanting to come into it now who are girls." Moore, who's family own the airfield at Tockwith, said she wants to make a career out of motorsport. "I think I'm going to stay on at school," she said. "I need a back-up in case things go wrong but motorsport for me is definitely something I want to make a career out of. "You can get to Le Mans 24 Hours and that for me is one of the biggest races you can do. "I'd rather be doing Le Mans than getting into Formula 1 which I can't do anyway. Racing in the dark at Le Mans is one thing I want to do."
