York City sign Carruthers on loan

York City have signed left-sided player Chris Carruthers on a one-month loan from Blue Square Premier rivals Oxford.

The 26-year-old has rarely featured in Oxford's first team and has just completed a month's loan at Crawley.

Carruthers will not be allowed to face his parent club next month as part of the agreement, but he will be allowed to play for them in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile it is expected that York centre-back Alan O'Hare will go on loan for a month to Gainsborough Trinity.

O'Hare has made the York bench eight times this season, but has been kept out by Daniel Parslow, Dave McGurk and the emerging Djoumin Sangare.

Carruthers gives manager Martin Foyle left-sided options, and left-back James Meredith could be under pressure to keep his place.

Carruthers began his career by progressing through the ranks at Northampton before moving to Bristol Rovers, he joined Oxford in the summer of 2008.

Oxford's then-manager Darren Patterson, who had joined the U's from York, transfer-listed him briefly at one stage, and the former England Under-20 international is not part of current boss Chris Wilder's plans.
