York extended their unbeaten run to 10 games as they condemned Tamworth to a first home defeat of the season.
Richard Tait headed the Lambs in front from Des Lyttle's cross but Andy Ferrell hit back for York with a low shot from the edge of the area.
Ferrell then turned provider, crossing for Richard Brodie to head home, before setting up Djoumin Sangare to nod in the third for York.
Tait bagged a late second for Tamworth when he got his head to Lyttle's cross.
York boss Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York:

"Defensively we were all over the shop, it wasn't a good enough performance for me.
"Sometimes the points can hide a multitude of sins and we need to get back on that training pitch quickly because we were a bit off the pace."
