Martin Foyle has just won his first-ever manager of the month award
York City manager Martin Foyle is proud of his players' achievement in equalling the club record of eight straight wins, set way back in 1955.
Saturday's 2-1 win over Wrexham matched the record run set in the mid-1950s.
"It's nice for the club," Foyle told BBC Radio York. "It's a fair bit of recognition, but I think it's the players who deserve the credit."
City will set an all-time record of nine wins in a row if they win this Saturday's FA Trophy tie at Hinckley.
"Sometimes you hear about the past all the time," added Foyle. "I've had it at former clubs. But this is 2009/10."
One other club record broken at the weekend was by striker Richard Brodie, whose match-winning goal against Wrexham helped him become the fastest York player to reach 20 goals for the season.
He beat another 54-year-old record, set by striker Arthur Bottom, by just six days.
It was a fantastic three points. A great win at the right time

But, ahead of a fortnight's break from league action, Foyle is more concerned with points than awards as third-placed York bid to keep up the pressure on the two clubs above them in the Blue Square Premier table, leaders Oxford United and Stevenage.
"It was a fantastic three points," he said. "Especially prior to two weeks away from league action, so it's a great win at the right time."
All of City's eight victories have been by one-goal margins. But Foyle points out that any win will do.
"You've got to win games of football like this," he added. "People think you can win games two or three nil but they need to wake up.
"Wrexham's league position is a bit false. They passed the ball about well. But they didn't really create much and we defended well."
