Cummins grapples with the R1 Yamaha

Manxman Conor Cummins battled hard to maintain his run of top-10 finishes in the Metzeler National 1000cc Superstock Championship at Cadwell Park on Monday.

Fresh from his success at the Ulster Grand Prix the 23-year-old started the 15-lap race from sixth after an excellent qualifying performance.

Despite a strong start Cummins finished in ninth, just four seconds off fourth.

The race was won by Alastair Seeley, with John McGuinness second and Adam Jenkinson third.

Cummins said: "It was a solid performance but extremely frustrating.

We're all working our backsides off in the team and I was battling it out for fourth place, so I can't ask for anymore from them Conor Cummins

"Practice went extremely well, but the race itself was hard work.

"I couldn't have asked for a better start but I was struggling a bit with grunt off the corners and with outright top speed, and whilst that made it difficult for me to overtake, it gave the riders behind me plenty of opportunities.

"We're all working our backsides off in the team and I was battling it out for fourth place, so I can't ask for anymore from them.

"I'll just keep working hard and try my utmost to get back into the top six at the next meeting."

The result sees the Isle of Man racer maintain ninth position in the overall standings.

The Team Blackhorse Yamaha rider will next be in action at Croft, North Yorkshire for round 10 on 11-13 September.
