Pitt is now sixth in the overall standings |
Isle of Man-based rider Andrew Pitt crashed out of the eighth round of the World Supersport Championships in Misano, San Marino on Sunday. Despite starting ninth the Australian made a blistering start and was up to second by the first corner and led the race by turn three. However, he lost the front at Misano's 131mph turn 10 whilst pushing to increase his advantage. He said: "I was pushing hard for the win and we know what happened." The double World Supersport Champion continued: "My neck and shoulder are a little sore but I'll be OK again by next weekend. "I need to start winning again and that was all that was in my mind today (Sunday)." The 22-lap race was red flagged after Pitt's Turkish team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu also crashed leaving oil on the track. Once the race was restarted Britain's Cal Crutchlow took the win and increasing his championship lead to 14 points over Ireland's Eugene Laverty, who finished second. The next round will be held at Donington Park on 28 June.
