Matej Zagar will remain with the Robins until the end of the season after agreeing to extend his short term deal.
The former Grand Prix rider has been in stunning form for Swindon and replaces the injured Troy Batchelor, who will be made available on loan when he returns.
Manager Alun Rossiter told BBC Wiltshire that Zagar has added a new dimension to the Robins.
"We all knew he is very gifted but we never expected him to do what he's doing, it's just fantastic," he said.
"What he has come in and done is beyond belief really. He certainly gives Leigh [Adams] that back up he's been sadly missing for quite a few years."
Zagar, 26, has reached double figures in his last six outings for Swindon, only failing to reach that mark on his debut at Peterborough.
The Robins also reaveled a deal is in place with his former club Reading to buy his contract, although they say there are still some issues to be resolved.
Rossiter said the decision was a tough one for Batchelor to take, but he was impressed with his reaction when he gave him the news.
"He said to me 'don't worry boss, I'll go away this year and I promise I'll come back and have the away tracks cracked for you next year', so I was quite impressed with his attitude.," added Rossiter.
