| Joy for Friedl and Hantuchova The action on Centre Court prevented a full house L Friedl (Cze)/D Hantuchova (Slo) bt M Bryan (US)/L Huber (SA) 4-6 6-3 6-2 The Czech and Slovak duo of Leos Friedl and Daniela Hantuchova won the mixed doubles crown at Wimbledon on Monday. In an enthralling final in front of a sadly miniscule audience, America's Mike Bryan and South Africa's Liezel Huber were eventually undone in three entertaining sets. As the excitement raged on Centre Court with the men's final, the mixed doubles were pushed next door to Court One following the rain delays at the weekend. Bryan and Huber won the first set 6-4 but then their opponents settled their early nerves to take the next two 6-3 6-2 to complete a memorable victory. The 18-year-old Hantuchova served out the final game with the force and agility she had shown for much of the match. |
